The Old Testament Story

The Old Testament is a collection of stories that took place before Jesus Christ was born, and we want to summarize the importance of those stories. The goal here is to give you a starting point for exploring the meaning of the stories, poems, proverbs history and prophecy.

Everything the Old Testament says is connected to one of two ideas that we want to share with you briefly as an introduction, we will come back and unpack this in more detail later.

The first idea is that every man, woman and child alive in the world was made in the image of God. Here is a quote from a part of the Old Testament known as the book of Genesis:

"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."

The second idea we need to know in order to understand the Old Testament story is found in another part of the Old Testament known as the book of Psalms. Here is another qoute:

"God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one."

Everything the Old Testament tells us is connected in some way to one of these two ideas, and anyone who rejects these two ideas cannot understand the meaning of Christianity.
